More than just another production company
Nowadays is a company inspired by years of working alongside charities.
That’s why we’re determined to create work that matters, why our team is populated with individuals who want to make the world a better place, why we think beyond production.
It’s an easy thing to say, but we have to be accountable, we need to ensure the sentiment is reflected in how we’re run as a business.
INITIATIVES
Nowadays Originals
We commission and produce our own content - Nowadays Originals - providing kit, time, budget and support to our team, when they’ve got a film they want to get off the ground.
As well as making some beautiful films, we’ve been able to tell important stories - about loneliness in old age, self-esteem, and waiting lists for trans people.
Better still, once produced, we’ve been able to gift these films as marketing assets to relevant charities, like Men’s Shed Association UK and Gendered Intelligence.
ASK AwAY THURSDAY
Breaking into film and creative production can feel impossible without the right guidance or connections. That’s why we set up a regular in-person session for up-and-coming filmmakers—giving them a safe space to ask questions, get honest feedback on their showreels and CVs, and build connections with others in the industry.
For us, it’s not just about making great films—it’s about making the industry better. Ask Away Thursday is one of the ways we give back: offering practical advice, championing new talent, and sharing the sort of inside knowledge that usually stays behind closed doors. No gatekeeping, no egos—just real support for the next wave of creatives.
Inclusivity
At Nowadays, diversity, equity and inclusion aren’t add-ons - they’re built into every part of our work. We go out of our way to champion underrepresented talent: from how we recruit and crew up, to how we cast, train and support new voices in the industry.
We work with partners and platforms dedicated to opening doors, make accessibility a standard (not an afterthought), and provide honest mentorship for the next wave of creatives. Our team takes ongoing training in everything from neurodiversity to mental health, and we keep learning as we go.
Inclusive filmmaking isn’t a side project here - it’s the baseline. There’s still a lot to do, but we’re committed to making real progress, one project at a time.
